King, Senators Ask USPS to Delay Consolidation of Sioux City Mail Processing Facility
Washington, D.C.- Congressman Steve King (R-IA), Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) announce that they have formally requested that the United States Postal Service delay the implementation of its plan to consolidate mail processing operations in Sioux City with a mail processing center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The request was made in a letter sent by the three Members of Congress to Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe this afternoon. The letter notes that a delay in the final implementation of the consolidation proposal is warranted and necessary because the USPS has spent weeks stalling the release of information sought by Sioux City officials attempting to prepare a counter proposal in advance of the September 16 deadline.
“It is clear that the USPS is attempting to ‘run out the clock’ on Sioux City’s efforts to develop a counter proposal to the USPS consolidation plan, and they should not be given a free pass to do so,” said King. “The Postmaster General promised me, Senator Grassley and Senator Harkin that Sioux City would be given sufficient time to analyze the AMP data and to develop a counter proposal, but for three weeks the USPS undermined this commitment by stalling the data’s release. The request for a delay is reasonable, and the USPS should grant it to honor the Postmaster General’s promises to the community.”
“Up to this point, the Postal Service’s response to questions and concerns from the congressional delegation and Sioux City community leaders has been disappointing,” said Grassley. “Yesterday’s meeting, for the first time, provided some information to the community, but it’s too little, too late, and puts Sioux City in a difficult situation. Sioux City deserves better treatment than what it’s gotten from the Postal Service. The least the Postal Service can do is provide additional time for the community to adequately respond.”
“After yesterday’s meeting, it is abundantly clear that USPS is slow-walking this process,” said Harkin. “The only reasonable option at this point is to try to delay any closure until sufficient information is available from all relevant groups.”

Congratulations fellas, you are now being treated like the employees are; not much fun, eh?
All across the country there are reports by Congress people Senators, Governors, mayors, etc of being ignored, mis-led, or out and out lied to by the Postal Service.
Good! Maybe now they will pay attention to the reasons that there has been so much violence in the Post Service. These types of business practices have been rampant in the Postal Service for at least twenty years, yet Congress has successfully managed to all the employee complaints.
Well boys, how do you like it now that it happening to you.
I work for the USPS and I have never seen so much mis management in all my times. You wonder why the place is in the shape its in. Personally I think they are jerking everyone’s chain to the point of no return. They keep saying they have no money, my job has increased over the past few months (parcels), they have hired temps to deliver the mail, given out raises to the upper over seer’s so to speak, re-vamped their buildings, they are paying PM’s to come in and oversee the carriers doing their routes in order to re-align them…imagine paying a PM their salary to sit in a truck and watch another do their job…absurd! How about 3 supervisors on one floor that one could handle the work? A PM that does absolutely nothing and makes over $104,000.00 a year…now I don’t know about you, but if you don’t have any money you start at the top and work your way down, not at the bottom and work up…that’s called saving your own butts and screwing the people that have got you to the position you are in to begin with. Then it goes without saying these people they call POOM’s that are making big time money and there are probably 8 of them per/district + or -….that’s a kool million anyway, and take that times the amount of districts out there…cut the POOMs for petes sake, take the raises back, quit fixing up your buildings, get rid of the temps, and quit paying out OT a mile a minute, and get rid of the worthless PM’s at their outrageous salaries….doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out where the problems are, but then again maybe we need one to tell the jerkoff’s what they should be doing, instead of what they aren’t doing…..right.
